I would love to buy a home in France.
It looks easy enough.
Every day there are T.V. programmes showing you how to, where to.
It looks brilliant. I would love to do it.
So what's stopping you ?
I tried once.
Took a few days out of my busy schedule. Went over to Normandy.
Trolled around the immobiliers …
'I want to look at that one please' actually what I said was more like 'Je vooodrais du look at that one see voo play' !
O.K. fine. Come back Friday and we will let you know if we can organize the keys for a visit.
But I'm going home on Friday. Desolate !
I did manage to look at a few in the end, but when you are on limited time and limited vocabulary it is not easy.
So I came back French homeless.
Frustrating isn't it ?
A friend of mine actually did buy one. A lovely cottage for renovation. It needed a new roof, windows and doors, the usual.
The problem was that they couldn't find anyone to do the work.
Two years later and after a bad winter, the roof completely caved in, water got into the stonework, and now it's worth less than what he paid for it.
Catastrophe !
Should have bought one of our properties.
So what's so different about your properties ?
Well to start with, they are not tumbling down wrecks. Blank Canvas properties are renovated to a high standard keeping the rustic charm that we all love.
But I found that when I was in France looking for properties you couldn't tell until you got to the house if there was a large pylon or huge industrial buildings next to them.
Complete waste of time.
When we look for our houses our first concern is location. It's no good having a holiday retreat right next to the firework testing factory is it ?
O.K. So I fall in love with one of your houses. It's in the perfect location. The house of my dreams. I suppose that as usual there will be huge agency fees to pay ?
