Burgundy Tourism Attractions

  • Burgundy is an ideal region to enjoy green tourism by sailing along the Canal de Bourgogne or Canal du Nivernais, fishing in the lakes, walking in the Morvan Forest, cycling through vineyards or visiting past castles or celebrating food and wine in good restaurants.
  • Towns of Chablis, Beaune, Dijon, Cluny, Mâcon or Vézelay are gathering all these assets through their their wine, fine food, churches, glorious castles, museums and current markets.

Water sports
Thanks to its lakes, ponds, bustling streams, rapids and waterfalls, burgundy offers various sports such as rafting, canoe-kayaking, sailing, sail, canoe, pedalo.

Navigation via canal cruiser as river trips via "bateau-mouche" are also available.

Aerial sports
The region offers aerial sports such as paragliding, hang-gliding.
ULM and hot-balloon flights over the castles and villages of Burgundy are famous once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Land sports
Burgundy accounts for 10 000 km of track roads across vineyards,forest, canals,hills and plains offering opportunity to practise: horse riding, hiking, biking and walking.
"Le Tour de Bourgogne à Vélo" consists of a circuit of about 800 kilometres of cycle tracks and green roads.
There are also 18 golf courses to choose from across Burgundy.

Relaxation
The thermal station of Saint-Honoré-les-Bains in the Morvan offer threatment with therapeutic value in natural environment.
In the little wine village of Meursault, there is a Spa centre called Spa "in Burgundy" and based on grapes treatment in convivial atmosphere.
An other wellbeing centre in the thermal spa town of Bourbon Lancy, called " Celtô" offers a variety of water therapies and beauty treatments.
Les Fontaines Salées: salt springs and mineral waters with commercial, religious and therapeutic benefits.

Burgundy Towns and villages of interest
Yonne
Auxerre: 170 km from Paris, on the River Yonne, famous for its old town with timber framed houses, as for its football team.
Vezelay: a UNESCO World Heritage site and pilgrimage area for centuries, with its basilica and charming medieval town.
Avallon: with its town’s ramparts and market town overlooking the Cousin Valley.
Joigny: picturesque town also centre of viticulture.

Saône et Loire
Cluny: with its largest abbey in Christendom, it was an important town in Burgundy’s past.
Mâcon: the gateway to the south, Lyon and the Mediterranean on the River Saône, famous for its wines and landscapes.
Châlon sur Saône: on the Saône river,pleasant for photographs and shopping lovers.
Autun: the Roman heart of Burgundy, with its rich history and architecture, surrounded by countryside.

Côte d'Or
Dijon: Capital of the region with majestic buildings dating back to the glorious days of the Dukes of Burgundy.
Châtillon-sur-Seine: in the north-east of Burgundy, famous for the magnificent Treasures of Vix.
Beaune: the heart of the wine region, known as the ‘Golden Gate’ of Burgundy for the great wine it produces.

Nièvre

Nevers: capital of faïence and Nièvre department,situated on the River Loire, with its cathedral "Saint-Cyr-Saint-Julitte" as pilgrimage town.
Magny-cours: known as motors sports town with its circuit, one of the famous French circuit, home of the "Formula 1 Grand Prix".

"Villes et Villages Fleuris"
Several towns and villages of Burgundy have been awarded like: Auxerre and Sens in the Yonne department.

Beaune and Dijon in the Côte d'Or and Mâcon and Paray le Monial in Saône et Loire.
