Champagne Ardenne Farmhouses
The classic Champagne Ardenne farmhouse has a gently sloping roof as well as classic red tiles. It is a massive lengthwise property generally found on the Ardennes hills. These traditional homes come with stables, a cowshed and a bread oven.
The attic is sometimes converted into a bedroom. The house is made of stone, with many windows of large dimensions. In this area of Champagne Ardenne, slates are used in an unusual way since you can see them on gently sloping roofs.
This is normally impossible due to the steeply pitched roofs of these French traditional houses, necessary for the slates not to slip and fall on the ground.
These houses often boast several chimneys and are typical of the Champagnes Ardenne countryside. This is still an area of France where you can really live in a tranquil and calm environment.
These properties have an excellent Bed & Breakfast potential as they offer plenty of rooms and a preserved, authentic rural environment. Their pleasant aspect and location are attractive and the piece of land often attached to the house will allow you to build a swimming pool for example.
Some of these traditional French houses are also half-timbered, a local feature that can also be seen in the neighbouring Lorraine region.
