In the last decade, the economy the French region Franche Comte has known a general increase.

Agriculture is mainly based on cattle ranch with the famous cow called la Montbéliarde, and on its cheese production with the renowned Comte or Cancoillote, which both have the AOC(Protected designation of Origin).

Franche-Comte is also the only region in the world to produce 5 different types of quality wines: Vin rouge, vin blanc, vin jaune, vin rosé, and vin de paille.

Franche comte is, proportionally to its population the first industrial region in France. 6 out of 10 jobs are in the tertiary sector and unemployment rate used to reach 8,5%. This is also the region that exports the most. Region's GDP grows at about 2% every year, which make it one of the most dynamic region of France. This is mainly due to a huge insutrial area. For instance, the industrial site of Peugeot-Citroen is the first of France by its size, and by its workforce, with 13 841 workers as of september 2006.

Tourism is not the main activity, although you can ski during winter and enjoy different kind of activities in summer, thanks to a varied landscape.

This region also offer financial and physical support for people in need such as elderly people, disabled people, unemployed people...
