Limousin Economy, Unemployment and Jobs

In the last decade, the economy of the French region Limousin has known a general increase.

Limousin is mainly a rural region. Famous for some of the best beef in the world, herds of Limousin farm animals are a common sight in the region. In fact, the region accounts for more bovines than inhabitants, with 1,1 million. In addition to cattle, the region is also a major wood producing area.

Because of its rural location it is also famed for their French Oak, so prized for its distinct characters and flavours in wine fermentation that only vintner Rémy Martin has exclusive rights to their oak orchards.

The regional capital, Limoges, was once an industrial power-base, world-renowned for its ceramic and is still a leader and innovator in electric equipment plants. However, large factories are now few in number.

The service sector represents 63% oj the jobs in Limousin, but is still under the national average. There is indeed a lack of services to companies in that region. This region also has the lowest salaries in France on average, just after the Lower Normandy.

Nevertheless some branches of the regions economy (such as industry, property building or tourism) have had problems with providing new jobs or even with keeping pre-existing employment.

But on the whole, the general economic trend of the Limousin region is quite similar to the economic situation of France.

Limousin has an unemployment rate of 6%.

This region also offers financial and physical support for people in need such as elderly people, disabled people, unemployed people...
