Limousin Gites, Apartments and Cottages

Limousin is still a really "wild" region of France. Many accommodations can be found in the hinterland as well as cities, to get an actual taste of its identity.

Here are the different types of accomodations you could find:

  • The Gites de France

Gites de France label is the most famous and serious label for Gites in France and thus in Limousin. It has full support of the French Ministry for Tourism for its quality. 42 000 gites are represented. Though really authentic, they often boast modern conveniences like wireless internet and TV for instance.

In Limousin, gites can be found in outstanding and "wild" places like Oradour-sur Glane, a village completely destroyed by the germans during world war 2, Rochechouart, site of a meteorite impact and attractive chateau or Uzerche, a walled town north of Brive-la-Gaillarde. As local inhabitants are generally friendly and welcoming, you will certainly enjoy the time you will spend here. You will have the choice between a huge selection of gites, and besides that, you will be able to enjoy a nice general landscape throughout all the region

  • Cottages in Limousin

Many cottages can be found. This type of property is always easier to buy than to rent since there are plenty of properties for sale. Limousin cottages are generally small properties as well known as "cros de meijou" in Limousin dialect. The typical cottage you can find in Limousin is a small two storey house that comes with a courtyard and outbuildings. If you consider the whole region, you have a very common type of cottage which is the Limousin barn-cowshed. You can definitely find a cheap cottage to renovate, and make a nice profit out of it.

  • Rent or buy an apartment

Apartments in Limousin can be really cheap depending upon their location, and many bargains can be found, either renting or buying. Bargains are foremost located in the hinterland around cities like Limoges or Brive. Even though these cities are reasonably large, prices are quite low compared to other French cities, and you can therefore find some very interesting offers. Life is pleasant here, and you will surely enjoy your time spent in the Limousin region of France.
