Picardy Weather

  • Picardy belongs to the Southern fringe of Europe of the Northwest and, as this whole big geographical domain, it is widely occupied during the year by wet and fresh air masses coming from the north Atlantic Ocean, warmed however by more tepid waters of the north-Atlantic drift.
  • In winter, the Picardy French region, generally wetter than cold, is situated to the limit of the headways of cold and dry continental polar air. On the heights of Bray and in Thiérache, the snow can accumulate and persist some days. A persevering coolness, a quasi-permanent humidity and powerful winds, especially in border of the coast, characterize the Picardy area of France.
  • In spring as in autumn, even in winter, beautiful sunny days can arise.
  • Summer is rather short and moderated (17° to 20° approximately). The modest period of sunshine exceeds hardly 40 % of the annual period of sunshine (on approximately 1600 h / year to Saint-Quentin, on 1660 h to Abbeville and on 1700 h to Creil). The bright periods are more frequent than during the nearby seasons, the warmer sun, the rarer mist and especially less durable.
  • The Picard French region climate presents many nuances in the progress of the seasons and there is much local differences depending upon the location itself in Picardy.
