Poitou-Charentes Economy

In the last decade, the economy of the French Poitou-Charentes region has experienced a general increase.

Wine-growing is mainly directed towards Cognac production. Oyster farming in Marennes-Oléron uses a large part of the littoral.

Local administrations have chosen to develop tourism by helping local theme parks. The Futuroscope and the Zoo amount to 50% of the tourism receipts of the region.

Nevertheless some branches of the region's economy (such as industry, property building or tourism) have had problems with providing new jobs or even with keeping pre-existing employment, that is why the choice of tourism is made to compensate these losses. But on the whole, the general economic trend of Poitou-Charentes is quite similar to the national one.
