Description

La Maison du Bailli is a two-storey stone cottage for 6 people, with a large garden and sunny courtyard, ideal for 3 couples or 2 families. Both the house and the garden are large enough and designed so as to enable guests to not crowd each other if so wished.

This 15th - 16th century cottage is one of our largest and most charming properties. The overall impression is of a very romantic, ancient, beautifully restored and comfortable cottage.  Virtually nothing has been changed in the house since its construction. It has sculptured Renaissance windows, 2 wine cellars with direct access from the living room, large oak beams, original red tiled floors and white washed walls.

The cottage has 2 floors:

Ground floor

  • Living / dining room - with a 15th century stone fireplace and a cosy candle-lit dining area for up to 8 people. From the living-room, a staircase leads directly down into the well-stocked wine cellar.

  • Twin bedroom - this room leads from the living room.

  • Kitchen - decorated according to tradition, but with glass-ceramic stove, oven, dish-washer, washing-machine and seating for 6 people.

  • Bathroom - a luxurious bathroom with whitewashed walls, oak beams, a large free-standing antique roll-top bath-tub and a walk-in multi-jet spa shower.

First floor

  • Two double bedrooms - each with a king-size double bed

  • Separate WC

Outside

The garden is large and separated in 2 parts: a front garden with a sunny courtyard (ideal for breakfast and lunch) and a back garden which catches the evening sun by the barbecue. From the garden you can see Bellenaves’ two landmarks: the château to which the cottage used to belong, and the 12th century church.

Every Wednesday morning, the local market is held in the village, and people flock here from all the other villages for their weekly fresh fish, organic vegetables and delicious cheeses.

There are 2 bakeries in the village, a well-stocked grocer and a very good butcher-cum-deli, so the morning croissants, pains au chocolat and other necessities are just a short walk away.

There is also a very good and reasonably priced restaurant in the local auberge on the main square.

Th e Auvergne region is still largely undiscovered by foreign tourists and therefore still retains the authentic charm many people have come to associate with France, such as beautiful churches and chateaux, breath-taking landscapes, lively weekly markets with the freshest produce, small tucked-away restaurants and a general sense of higher quality of life.

There is truly something for everyone in our area, be it outdoor sports such as mountain-biking, kayaking, golf or trekking on extinct volcanoes; pampering and shopping in one of the numerous spa towns which the Romans favoured; visiting countless medieval churches, chateaux and museums; or just lazing about in the garden after a delicious lunch in the local restaurant.

La Maison du Bailli is also available for long winter lets, as it has central heating.
