For a change from the Ocean (where swimming must be in the supervised area) there are many vast natural inland lakes of soft water which offer sailing activities and safe swimming for the little ones. Their sandy beaches are shaded by sweet smelling pines.

The French Côte Landaise is renowned for its excellent surfing conditions and shelters each September events of the World Surfing Cup. The easy going life style of surfers even permeates the general gentle way of life on this coast which is turned towards outdoor activities and nature. Another typical outdoor activity in the Landes is golf and there are no less than 7 golf courses in the Landes, of which 3 are very renowed (Hossegor, Moliets and Seignosse) and there are 11 other Golf courses in the neighbouring Pays Basque, with the famous Chiberta Golf in Anglet or Golf du Phare in famous Biarritz.
