  The Locality

The region is primarily agricultural with the area around Cancon specialising in hazelnuts.  The Lot Valley grows a wide variety of fruit trees, in particular plums (pruneaux d’Agen), and borders the well known wine growing areas of Bordeaux, Bergerac, Cahors and Duras.  The unspoiled countryside is interspersed with bastide villages famous for their covered arcades, beautiful architecture and churches.  Cancon offers a leisurely pace of life with all amenities.  The village has a good selection of shops, a weekly market, several cafes and an excellent restaurant.  High above the village sit the ruins of a medieval chateau and the old quarter with its cobbled streets, stone and half timbered houses.  The larger towns of Villeneuve-sur-Lot and Bergerac have modern, out-of-town shopping centres together with attractive, medieval old towns offering  boutiques, open-air cafes and restaurants.  In the area there are many leisure activities and places of interest including 2 golf courses, fishing, canoeing, swimming, riding, boat trips, vineyards, museums, chateaux, prehistoric caves, gardens and several popular attractions for children.
