Apartment description:
1 bedroom apartment of 40 sqm with a 8 sqm terrace West oriented with fully fitted kitchen and one allocated parking space.
Development overview:
This beautiful development of just 40 apartments and 6 houses is located in Saint Pierre d’Irube the most desirable suburb of buoyant Bayonne, capital of “Pays Basque”. The apartments’ size ranges from studio (1 main room) to 3 bedroom apartments and 4 bedroom houses. This development has the nice looks of a typical Basque hamlet since the apartments are scattered on 3 small buildings of one storey which makes them look like houses. The building site is located up a hill thus commanding views of the lush and gentle basque countryside with the Pyrenees as a background. Most of the apartments are South East or West oriented. All apartments have balconies or terraces and alocated parking spaces. Although located in a very quiet and leafy district and benefiting from nice views of the basque countryside, access to Bayonne, the other basque towns and the Ocean is extremely easy. The A 63/64 motorway which serves all the coastal towns is just 5 minutes’ drive. The closest beaches are in Anglet a mere 13 km and the Biarritz airport is a 20 minutes’ drive too. There is a bus stop just across the street for a bus line serving Bayonne, Anglet and Biarritz. Many amenities and shop are within walking distance to the residence.
Biarritz town centre: 13 km Biarritz airport: 12 km Bayonne town centre: 6 km with high speed train connections to Paris in around 5 hrs.
The location:
Saint Pierre d’Irube is neighbour to the town of Bayonne on its South East border. It is considered as the “chic” residential district of Bayonne and is located up one of the hills that surround the town centre of Bayonne, thus commanding nice open views over the countryside and the Pyrenees which are just 40 km away. All amenities are available in the village of St Pierre D’Irube, including schools, shops and high school and Bayonne being located just 3.5 km away offers many others. Saint Pierre d’Irube offers the charms and quietness of life in a rural scenery but with the advantages of a vibrant town at its door. As for Bayonne, capital town of the ‘Pays basque’ it is an endearing place. Few towns in France can boast so many advantages; first of all it enjoys a unique geographical position, since it is nestled between two rivers and the Atlantic Ocean. Being Atlantic the climate is mild and sunny. The long beaches of the Atlantic are just a 10 minutes’ drive and so is famous Biarritz. Spain is just a 30 minutes’ drive too.
Then, Bayonne with 45,000 inhabitants is a town with a year-round-appeal, with a life of its own and a strong cultural identity. The majestic architecture, inherited from a rich and long history, is of course part of the charm. The classic 18th century architecture of the quays could remind the one in Bordeaux or even Paris, while the ramparts, watchtower, Château Vieux and Château Neuf and the citadel - one of Vauban’s (the famous Sun King architect) masterpieces - remind its military past and the timber houses in typically basque red and blue colours tell the regional specificity. What is also part of the charm of this town is its joyful lifestyle and great gastronomy. Even though Bayonne is the economic capital of the region and Basque people are hard workers they are also renowned merry-makers. The regional identity is a mingle of influences: the Spanish influence can be found in the “tapas” tradition (small snacks that you pick up for appetizers) and the festive spirit; the French South West culture is to be found in rugby, gastronomy and the spoken accent; the strong Basque identity is still alive through a lot of traditions such as ‘pelote basque’ (hand-ball game), the summer festival (‘Fêtes de Bayonne’). To top it Bayonne is in the heart of a beautiful region which offers very diverse interests although in a small area. There is a great coastline with family friendly beaches in Hendaye or Saint Jean de Luz, or sportive beaches in Bidart & Anglet which are renowned surfing paradise. The Basque countryside is interesting with as many as 11 legendary golf courses offering great views either of the Ocean or of the Pyrenees, picturesque landscapes with stunning view of the Pyrenees and their soft foothills, and charming little villages in typical basque architecture with out of season life.
