The building is a fine example of a traditional Auvergne barn, with the cow-shed on the ground floor and the hayloft above, reached by an upper-level track. The following services will need to be provided, in addition to the creation of living spaces: water supply from private spring electricity supply telephone septic tank upgrading existing access track (from the D 39) The property has a Certificat d'Urbanisme (outline planning permission)for conversion to B&B and/or gîte accommodation. Location From Saint-Flour, follow the D921 then the D990 to Pierrefort, then take the D265 to Brezons. Turn right on the D39 and follow it up the beautiful Brezons valley. The village of Lustrande is situated at the head of the Brezons valley, and the barn is reached via a track leading left off the D39 shortly after it doubles back to climb SE out of Lustrande. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Parc Naturel Régional des Volcans dAuvergne, with forests, waterfalls, open upland pastures and rugged mountain peaks. The region produces Cantal cheese, fine beef and charcuterie; the local restaurants serve generous menus of traditional dishes. There are few foreign tourists. Leisure activities It is a short drive from Lustrande to the start of paths that lead directly to the summit of the Plomb du Cantal (1832 m), or to the spectacular waterfall known as the Trouts Leap. For long-distance walkers the GR 416 and the GR 400 pass nearby, and there are plenty of paths for mountain bikes. In winter there is very reasonably-priced downhill skiing from the Prat de Bouc or Le Lioran, and cross-country trails from Vigouroux, Cézens or the Prat de Bouc. In summer there is boating and swimming on the Lac de Sarrans, and numerous local markets and festivals. Amenities Access to the A75 motorway at Saint Flour (45 kms), and airports at Rodez (99 kms) and Clermont Ferrand (143 kms). Lustrande has a restaurant with a fuel station, and mobile tradesmen call regularly with bread, cheese, meat and vegetables. There are 2 restaurants in Saint-Martin-sous-Vigouroux (14 kms), and rustic meals are served in the Buron de la Combe de la Saure, originally a traditional cheese-makers hut on the upland pastures above Lustrande. Pierrefort (15 kms) provides local shops, bank, post office, restaurants, solicitor, doctor, pharmacy, school and hairdresser. Major shops and hospitals are in Saint Flour (45 kms) and Aurillac (69 kms).
