This property standing at 1000 metres in the heart of the Livradois National Park is ideal for families or small groups looking to enjoy the outdoors life in whatever season as the house has central heating throughout.

This is an old farmhouse which has undergone considerable updating and with its south facing aspect offers fabulous views over the national park and as good a night sky as you can find anywhere in France due to its remoteness from city lights. It has five bedrooms (sleeping 8+), gas central heating (also wood burning fire), 2 living rooms, a games room with pool and table tennis, garden with terrace. The house also has an attached barn, stable and 'hanger'.

The property backs onto one of the largest forested areas in France with many hiking and mountain biking routes to follow. In addition the region has a number of lakes and rivers for swimming, fishing and other water sports such as canoeing and kayaking. In winter there is cross-country skiing near Ambert and downhill skiing at Super Besse beyond Issoire.

The farmhouse has 3 floors:

Ground floor

American style kitchen with cooker; living/dining room - with chateau type table and seating for at least 8 plus other seating area. Downstairs bathroom and store room with access to the garage. From the living-room, a staircase leads up to the 1st floor

Outside
Terrace ideal for use in warm weather for meals and as an extended living room. It also serves as a barbecue area although there are other options. The garden runs down towards the streams that start from the adjacent fields where the local sheep graze. You can see the spires of Echandelys church and the far distant hills of the Massif Central and buzzards are frequently seen flying overhead.

There are regular delivery vans that come to the hamlet selling everything from bread and groceries to meat and fresh fish. Local markets are in Issoire (Saturdays) and Ambert (Thursdays) The nearby village has a bar and restaurant but for shops one needs to travel to Condat de Montboissier (5 kilometres) or Fournols (6 kilometers - less if taking the forest trails on bicycle).

The Livradois National Park region is largely untouched by tourists but offers a wonderful combination of nature, history and rural life. However, if one wants to occasionally indulge in the attractions of the city, Clermont Ferrand with its the European Park of Volcanoes is less than an hour away while the beautiful city of Le Puy, the starting point for the Santiago de Compostela Pilgrimage, with its many hilltop churches and historic buildings is only a little further.
