It is 6km away from “Ardes-sur-Couze” a beautiful village where one can find all major services, doctors, shops etc… It is located 25 km from the A75 (Exit 17, Saint Germain Lembron) highway which links the south of France (2 and a half hours drive from Mediterranean Sea) to the North and Paris (4 hours drive) via the Millau high bridge. The nearest train station is in Issoire, 30 minutes away, and the nearest international airport is in Clermont-Ferrand (Aulnat airport, tel : 04 73 62 71 00), 55 minutes away. Zanières altitude is 900m. It is facing South towards the “Massif du Cezallier” a large granite high plateau area covered by grazing grounds and is preserved from the wind by “Puy de Sarran” a long dead volcano. The hamlet has one farmer family who raises sheeps and “red skin” Saler type cows. The area is a wide preserved landscape that hikers an mountain bikers fall in love with. The flora is very rich (gentiane, bilberries …) and features some rare species like “Sphaigne” and “Drosera” (a carnivorous plant). Salted springs help preserving a southerner flora. Fishermen love the volcanoes lakes and the “Couze” (a trout river). Fruit pickers will enjoy the wild bilberries, raspberries, blueberries… Mushroom pickers will be busy walking and searching for treasures in the beautiful forests or meadows.
