What Dinan can claim, and with great justification, is to be the most perfectly preserved medieval town in Brittany. Old world charm is everywhere. Picturesque 15th and 16th century half-timbered houses with their pointed gables and wooden porches line cobbled streets, while a 14th century castle and ramparts that completely encircle the town state clearly that this was once a major military stronghold. A museum housed within the castle keep offers a fascinating insight into some of this local history. Dinan can only be properly explored on foot, and you shouldn't hesitate to make use of the locals' knowledge. They genuinely love their town, and take enormous delight in showing it off to visitors at every opportunity. Never is this more evident than during the July festival held here, La fete des Ramparts. This is probably the largest and most spectacular medieval festival in Europe, and certainly a hugely impressive journey back through the centuries. The development is on the edge of the historic centre, only 5 mins walk away, and has been designed using an organic template of glass, wood, and pale plaster as a background to the verdant parklands around and the terraces on the top floors. There are 7 buildings set around a large central green courtyard. The buildings are no higher than 3 stories and each of the apartments benefit greatly from having vast balconies looking down over the green spaces. The apartments have lots of natural light and a spacious with a calm and uncluttered design. There are lifts and stairs to each of the floors and standard security features across the board. There are daily flights from London and the train to Paris is no more than 3 hours.
