3 Bedroom Village House - €395,000 (euros) - Location: Paray-le-Monial, Marcigny
Burgundy, Saône-et-Loire, Paray-le-Monial

Description

The village South of Paray le Monial has one of the loveliest Romanesque churches in the whole of Burgundy. And it forms part of the view from this restored farmhouse on the edge of the village, which has also decent basic shops (bakery, grocery) as well as a couple of restaurants. The house stands at one end of its grounds of over two acres, and is built is the local golden-coloured stone. Its renovation has been innovative, not seeking to reproduce an old farmhouse, and contains a coupe of surprises. The fitted kitchen is modern and has kept the old stone fireplace, a salon has been made in the other original room of the farmhouse, while the former barn has been made into a large living room with lots of light, thanks to its two sets of sliding glass doors. Between these two rooms sliding bookshelves (yes, sliding bookshelves, see the photos) which allow the two rooms to be kept separate or communicating. This ground floor is completed by a bedroom with private bathroom, and the whole storey has under-floor heating from the oil central heating. Upstairs two more bedrooms and a second bathroom, plus an attic from which a further bedroom might be made. Behind the house a broad terrace overlooking the garden, which is well planted with a good variety of shrubs and also has an old well, and there is also a vegetable garden and a small pond. It is not often that we find a village house with such large grounds, or with such a view, with a high degree of comfort to boot.
