L’Alouette is a beautiful detached stone built country house situated on a quiet lane in the village of Pech Luna, 20mins from Mirepoix. There is a spacious kitchen/dining room and a large lounge (35m2/380sq ft) with its original grey marble fireplace and wood burner. There is also a vast games room for entertaining (60m2/645sq ft) with its own WC, wood burner, breakfast terrace and access to the courtyard. Upstairs there are four king sized bedrooms (approx 20m2/215sq ft each), 2 bathrooms, an office and a large storage area/attic (20m2).

Outside there is an enclosed courtyard (84 m2/900sq ft) and an attached barn (45m2/485sq ft), which leads onto the garden (570m2/6135sq ft) and swimming pool (9.5m x 4.5m). The pool area is fenced off with safety gate & alarm, has a decked sunbathing area and uninterrupted views of the surrounding open countryside. There is off road parking for up to 4 cars.

Cottage/Gite, Petite Alouette
In addition to the main house, there is an adjoining 2 bedroom cottage dating back to the 1800’s, with period features such as exposed oak beams and stone. It has an open plan kitchen/dining area, a large double height lounge with a log burner and an enclosed private courtyard. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms and two bathrooms. There is broad band connection and wiring for satellite television. The main house has central heating and wood burning stoves, the gite has electric heating and a wood burning stove.

Pech Luna Village
The village has a friendly and welcoming community and the mayor is very approachable and keen to promote the good of the village. It holds a number of fetes each year celebrating the seasons. These include the moule-frites in spring, the large outdoor fete in summer and the châtaigne & vin nouveau in autumn.

Local Amenities
Pech Luna is a few minutes away from two larger villages, Belpech and Salles sur l’hers, which have the following amenities: Bar/restaurant, Doctors (Eng speaking), Post office, Bakeries, Dentists, Newsagents, Butchers, Chemist, Petrol Station, General stores, Banks, Garage.

Schools: there are several schools (infant, junior, secondary) and colleges within easy reach from Pech Luna. There are also free school buses which collect and drop off from the centre of the village.

The nearest airports to us are Carcassonne (approx 40minutes drive) and Toulouse (approx 50minutes drive).

The nearest train station is in Castelnaudary, again with larger ones in Toulouse and Carcassonne.

Local Produce
Local produce can be purchased from farms around the village including goats’ cheese, honey, rare breed pork and the best ice cream we have ever tasted. There are several open weekends and events throughout the year where you can visit different farms and sample their produce too. Oh, and not forgetting the local snail farm if you really want to immerse yourself in French cuisine!

Thing’s to see and do

Around Pech Luna there are weekly local markets, a wide selection of restaurants and cafes, a lake with water sports and a local walking club. Pech Luna is centrally located for visiting the cities of Toulouse and Carcassonne, where you can indulge in French cafe culture, get some retail therapy, or visit the fortified city of Carcassonne (featured in the Da Vinci Code book & film). You can venture into the mountains of the Pyrenees, to the spa & ski resort of Ax-Les-Thermes, or head for the Med and explore the numerous coastal resorts and beaches. This region is steeped in history, including that of the Cathars & Knights Templar, with numerous castles and citadels perched on high mountain ridges. TheCanal Du Midi meanders through the region and you can hire boats, walk or cycle along it. It also has restaurants and picnic areas dotted along its tree lined banks.

This is the largest wine producing region in France and it’s easy to see why when we have the vineyards of the Minervois, Fitou, Cabardès, Malepère, Corbières and Limoux. It’s a joy driving through the vineyards and seeing the changing colours through the seasons. Of course you could always stop for a spot of wine tasting as they are within easy drive (or taxi ride!) away.
