Deep in Cathar country, nestling in the foothills of the French Pyrenees the cottage is situated 40 minutes drive from Carcassonne, 90 minutes from Toulouse & 60 minutes from Perpignon - all serviced by Ryanair or Easyjet. The house, which sleeps up to 6 has a log fire, bags of character and a small terrace with fantastic views over the Aude valley, Renne le Chateau, Coustaussa Castle, and surrounding mountains. The accommodation is over 3 floors with 2 double bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor and a twin room at the top. All the bedrooms have spectacular views. The ground floor kitchen with fridge/freezer, cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle and dishwasher has all you need for a comfortable stay. The large dining room seats 6 and the lounge, which opens onto the terrace, is equipped with a Stereo CD player, TV. WiFi, radio, books and games. The cottage is ideally placed for walking, cycling, fishing, canoeing, swimming and skiing. The Mediterranean coast is less than an hour away. A day trip to Barcelona is another option, the Spanish border is 90 minutes drive with Barcelona another 45 minutes. Montazels has a rail connection to Carcassonne with SNCF connections to Toulouse and Paris. The train stop is a 10 minute walk from the cottage, with restaurant and shops a further 5 minute walk over the river bridge in Couiza. The village is also home to La Cave Des Haute d’Aldae, where local wines can be tasted and bought. Although the village has no shops the bread van passes the door each morning with your breakfast croissant and baguette on board. The village of Montazels is part of the rich and fascinating history for which this region is renowned, being the birthplace of Bérenger Saunière, the priest at the centre of the Rennes le Chateau mystery which gave rise to the plot of the recent Dan Brown book and film The Da Vinci Code
