Vero's Patio

The house is situated in the very heart of the little village of Siran, in the Languedoc region of Southern France in a quiet and unspoilt village in the heart of the Minervois vineyards, close to Carcassonne, Narbonne and Beziers.

VERO's PATIO ACCOMODATION

On the ground floor, there is a dining room with a large, traditional fireplace (it was formerly used for cooking). The next room is a basic kitchen. Behind the kitchen are the toilets, the shower room and a utility room with devices to install a washing machine. From the ground floor the stairs lead to the first floor with three bedrooms: a large one and two smaller ones with. One of these leads to the little patio large enough to accomodate an outdoor table to eat outside. The staircase continues to the beautifuly renovated attic level where you will find a large bedroom and a pleasant sitting room, which leads through double glazed patio doors to the balcony. The balcony is secluded and sunny (due south). This level is very cosy and usually warm, even in Winter because it's well protected against the winds.

SIRAN VILLAGE

Siran, one of the most sought after locations in the Minervois, is a small and welcoming village with a network of narrow Medieval streets in the centre around “La tour de l’Horloge” (“Clock Tower”), a remnant of the former castle.   The village has several facilities including post office, grocer’s shop, baker, garage, café and restaurant. The village is attractively situated, lying at the northern edge of the wine growing plain of the Minervois area, where the land starts to rise up into garrigue countryside and the foothills of the Montagne Noire. On the edge of the village is a beautiful Romanesque Chapel, built on the site of a Roman villa, and also a little further on there is the famous dolmen, “Le Dolmen des Fées”, the “Fairies Dolmen”. 

THE SURROUNDING AREA

The town of Olonzac is 8 km. South East of Siran and is the regional town of the Minervois. It has a full range of facilities, with a number of bar/cafes, restaurants and a weekly market.

The Canal du Midi runs 2 km. South of Olonzac. This quiet and beautiful canal runs from Toulouse to the Mediterranean and is a World Heritage Site. The famous Cathar village of Minerve is 10 km. North East of Cesseras. The village is built over a limestone gorge with the nearby river Cesse which runs under a series of natural arches in the rock. The high limestone Causses and canyons of this area are excellent for walking and observing the local wildlife. There is excellent walking directly behind Siran, with many paths and small roads leading back into the foothills that are covered in Garrigue, the local Mediterranean shrub land.

Carcassonne is only 30 minutes away, a World Heritage Site, it is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe. Carcassonne new town has all the facilities you would expect of a regional capital including many of the major French Hypermarkets. Beziers and Narbonne are similar distances and have many tourist attractions and all the facilities you would expect of Mediterranean cities.

The Mediterranean coastal resorts of Valras-Plage and Narbonne-Plage are within 55 minutes drive of Cesseras, as are the coastal Etangs and marshes with their bird life, including Flamingos.

The villages of Roquebrun and Cessenon on the River Orb are within 45 minutes and offer river swimming and rafting.

The Montagne Noire are close by, reaching a height of over 1200 m., they can offer a welcome relief from the summer heat with walking in Chestnut and Oak forests.

The Pyrenees are 90 minutes South of Cesseras, the nearest Ski resorts just over 2 hours. Andorra is about two and half-hours away. Spain and the Costa Brava are 90 minutes and Barcelona is two and half-hours by motorway.
