Development overview:
This vast development very successfully reproduces and even enhances the Mediterranean architecture of a French Southern village. Though rather vast, the development has the looks of a true and typical Southern village. The development is a mingle of terraced houses, individual villas and low rise buildings. Almost half the development is made of houses (individual or terraced houses). While homogenous the architectural style is not uniform. Everywhere is the architecture refined and respectfully reproduces features of Mediterranean style: ochre coloured renders, green wooden shutters, wrought-iron details, pergolas, Roman tiles roof, Genoise eaves, pilasters, reproduction of antique fountains. Everywhere has Mediterranean vegetation been planted or kept: pines, olive trees, vines, cypresses, oleanders, palm trees, lavender, rosemary…
The development was designed for full-time residents which is the case at 70%. As a consequence private gardens are well tended, terraces are full of flowers and there is not this unpleasant feeling of living in a ghost city when autumn arrives.
The development is within walking distance (800 m) to a 3 miles fine sand beach and is really on the fringe of the protected area of Regional Natural Park of the Narbonnaise.
There are only 3 three bedroom apartments left for sale.
The region:
Narbonne-Plage, coastal resort of the town of Narbonne, enjoys a blessed geographical position. Far from other densely developed and overpopulated beach resorts of the Languedoc coastline, Narbonne-Plage is a family-oriented resort with a 3 miles beach of fine golden sand. One reason for it not being overcrowded is that it is leaning against the Clape Mountain, which is part of a very wide area of protected nature: the Narbonnaise Natural Regional Park which covers 80 000 hectares (25 000 acres) and is one of the last major preserved sites of this size on the French Mediterranean coast. This Natural Regional Park guarantees that the land cannot be built and wild Mediterranean landscape is preserved. Thus Narbonne-Plage has the double and rare advantage of enjoying a flat coastline with a very long sandy beach and small harbour along with a typical Mediterranean landscape of craggy hills, planted in Southern vegetation such as pine trees, olive trees, cypresses, vines, scrubland and the Mediterranean aromatics herbs like thyme, rosemary and fenel. This place is therefore ideal for the practice of many sports: all types of water sports of course, as well as cycling along the flat coastline and also hiking along the endless tracks of the Clape Mountain amongst the humming of cicadas and the delightful scent of pines. In fact Narbonne-Plage could be the quintessence of the Mediterranean world. If this sounds too good to be true, there are a few drawbacks. As this seaside resort started being developed in the 60’s, some of the village centre buildings are a bit old fashioned and would need a good restyling and the seafront is also built with villas that one would call “vintage”. The good point though is that there are very few high-rise buildings and most housings are private villas set in gardens of good size for coastal standards, with vegetation that has had time to grow. Given the blessed geography of Narbonne-Plage, there are high chances that big renovation projects will be carried out in order to make the most of this exceptional location. This has already started for instance with the few new developments which have been recently built in Languedoc-style architecture. As a consequence Narbonne-Plage has started having more full-time residents, be it retired people or young actives with family working in the Narbonne area. As a matter of fact, the town of Narbonne is just a 15 minutes’ drive and provides an even wider range of amenities, shops and shopping malls
