PAZIOLS, LANGUEDOC


THE UNDISCOVERED CORNER OF FRANCE


The house is situated in the old part of the village, which enjoys quieter, quaint little roads and is prettier than the new part of the village, and the whole has around 600 inhabitants.


Paziols is a pretty village full of character, in the Tauch valley along with its neighbouring village of Tuchan (2 km away), overlooked by the Castle d’Aguilar. It has a very friendly family run corner shop which seems to stock everything, and is a meeting place for all. There is a bar and restaurant, a little hairdressers, a post office, and of course the usual Mairie (town hall where you can get a multitude of advice, help and information). There is a small school, and last but not least 3 “Caves” where you can buy and taste the quality wines of the surrounding vineyards. Paziols being primarily a village of viticulteurs.


The main “Cave” being the producer of the Fitou found in the Supermarkets in England, and other countries too. Fitou is probably the most up and coming wine of France, for price and quality.


Paziols is very well placed for exploring the breathtaking scenery of the countryside and foothills of the Pyrenees and South of France. It is situated on the river Verdouble and in the summer you can bathe on the banks or swim in the ‘pool’ (a part of the river that is dammed up just for swimming.) There are numerous picnic sites, and a barbecue for all to use close by. There is a campsite with a swimming pool nearby, open to the public with its own bar and restaurant. The neighbouring town of Tuchan has 3 more restaurants, and a bank , chemist, doctor and dentist! The village is situated between Narbonne (45mins), Perpignan (30mins) and Carcassonne (1 hr). The latter two both being served by Ryanair along with other budget airlines, and if that isn’t good enough you have other airports a little further afield.


The whole surrounding area is rich with Castles, breathtaking Gorges and rivers, and the sheer beauty often surprises many visitors, where you can find wild boar, badgers, and golden eagles and all nature of wild flowers.


The Mediterranean beaches are 45 mins drive away with long stretching, golden sandy beaches.


In Winter skiing is available at many small resorts in the Pyrenees around 1and a half hours drive away.


Spain is just over an hours drive away, with the town of Figueras a little further on famous for Salvador Dali with his museum situated there. The high speed railway is currently being finished to link Perpignan with Barcelona which will make it a short journey within an hour. Currently a 2 and a half hour drive.
