Beautifully restored village house for rental This newly refurbished and furnished village house for letting in the Languedoc wine region of the South of France. 25 minutes from the Mediterranean beaches. 1 1/2 hours drive to Spain. Ideal base for exploring this beautiful part of France. Sleeps 5, plus 1 in fold up bed. From £190 per week. (Colour brochure available) This traditional Languedoc village house is ideal for a family, a group, or couples, a perfect base for exploring this beautiful part of France, situated in a quiet side street, just off the village square, directly facing the Chateau Creissan, where there is easy parking, the house is conveniently close to local shops. The house is newly restored and furnished, and is set on 3 levels, containing 3 bedrooms, salon/diner, kitchen, washroom with shower, toilet room, and enclosed courtyard. It is a roomy house, catering for up to 5 people, plus 1 additional person in a fold up bed if required. There is a comfortable spacious salon, for relaxation, with a television, DVD player, CD & cassette/radio, adjoining is the dining area. The kitchen is well equipped, with a washing machine, fridge/freezer, cooker hob, microwave/oven, toaster, etc. A marble stairway leads to two large bedrooms, and one smaller bedroom, all beds are single beds, which can be brought together if required, (bed linen provided @ £5 per person). There is a tiled washroom with a hand basin and an enclosed shower, (hand/bath towels provided @ £3 per person), plus a separate WC. Enjoy a nice glass of wine in the small but pleasant courtyard. Creissan provides a post office, bakers, grocers, florists, newsagents/tabac, hairdressers, bookshop, and a doctors, (there is a large supermarket and petrol station, 5 minutes drive away at Capestang). A friendly bar provides refreshment, and gives you the chance to meet the locals, and brush up on your French. In the park, behind the Marie (town hall), just a stones throw away from the house, there is a 25 metre communal swimming pool, a boules square, along with table tennis areas, and an open air theatre, showing intermittent performances, there are also tennis courts also in the village. There is a telephone kiosk in the centre, (cards can be obtained at the post office, or the newsagents, much cheaper than using your mobile phone). In front of the house you will be staying at, lies the old Chateau Creissan, now housing a vigneron, supplying wines to prestigious hotels and restaurants in London and elsewhere. (Open for wine purchase, at reduced prices). A large riding stables on the outskirts of Creissan, on the road towards Quarante, caters for both novice and more experienced horse riders. There are bus routes from the village, to and from Beziers, the nearest city, and to other destinations. There are a variety of interesting amenities close to the village .....for example: There are some very interesting markets in the outlying towns and villages, including a small Tuesday market in Creissan There are a good selection of restaurants close to Creissan, usually situated in the villages nearby. or sign-posted on the roadside. Visit the many roadside Cave Cooperatives (wine outlets), for sampling and purchasing of local wines at low prices, from around 80 cents per litre..... Not to be missed (there are 3 caves in Creissan Itself). A wine museum just off the Creissan/Quarante road at Roueyre, provides a very interesting insight into the production of regional, and national wines. Watch the bustle and activity of the canal boats on the Midi Canal at Capestang, whilst enjoying a meal, snack, or drink at the restaurant/bar overlooking the water there. On the Orb river, at Reals, between St Chinian and Murviel-les-Beziers, there is canoeing, kayaking, and other water sports, this is a popular focal point, and the location also boasts a free picnic barbeque area, with a bar/restaurant close by. Beziers, the nearest city to creissan (12 miles), with its fine Cathedral, Romaine St Nazaire, the famed bullring and the Feria festival, there is good shopping, cafes. and restaurants. Creissan, a very charming French village, lies between the mountains of the 'Parc Naturel', and the Mediterranean beaches, a 25-minute drive to either, and settled amongst vineyards as far as the eye can see, this is truly a unique setting for exploring this region, with rivers that cascade down to the sea, providing water activities, ranging from canoeing and rafting, to leisurely canal trips on the famous Canal du Midi. The whole area is steeped in history, the remains of which can be seen in its cities and towns, and the chateaux, abbeys and monasteries. Languedoc has seen some turbulent changes throughout the centuries, its very proximity to Spain (only 85 miles away from Creissan) has ensured a diversification of contact, both cultural and linguistic, with a strong Catalonian connexion, that is noticeable in the features and the characteristics of the local people. Languedoc now though, is becoming recognized as a tourist destination for millions of visitors, as its reputation testifies, there is so much to discover, the region offers a huge variety of interests for many tastes, 150 miles of stunning coastline, water sports, culture, cuisine, and not forgetting the wines, and with accessibility made easy via good roads, railways, and airports (sometimes offering exceptional flight fares) you must make this your holiday choice. Carcassonne airport, just 45 minutes to Creissan, Montpelier 1 hour, Perpignan 1 1/4 hours, and Girona 2 hours. Each airport provides car hire for around £100 per week. There are excellent bus services running throughout Languedoc. French roads are a pleasure to drive on, and stress-free. The TVG train runs from Paris to Languedoc in only 4 hours.
