The mobile home is on a quiet site, between the beach and the village. Great as a base for exploring the area or house hunting. Skiing is just over an hour away. Strolling distance to the village, 1.5km or short ride to the beach 2.5km. This area caters for everyone! Cycling is the ideal way to explore the leafy lanes and discover the art, wine, culture, horseriding, water sports etc that the area has to offer in abundance. Camping Le Clos du Thym MAGNIFICENT NEW POOL COMPLEX WITH HEATED POOL, HOT TUB ETC PLANNED FOR JUNE 2008 is a quiet SITE which is OPEN ALL YEAR is in a rural setting with stables to the rear and fields either side, but it is not isolated. It was bought last year for conversion to a mobile home park and is currently being upgraded. Out of season it's ideal for long-term stays.Spring or Autumn explore the surrounding area. Or Xmas/New Year head for the SKI SLOPES just over an hours drive. For those who prefer - savour the art and culture to be found in abundance.The little yellow road-train stops nearby. There is a pool, with childrens section, outdoor cafe area and a *childrens play area. These are open from the start of June till September. A few hundred yards along the road is a supermarket with fruit stall, wine store and chicken takeaway which are all open from June to Sept/Oct.. There is a small *laundrette facility on site. * Open all year. Approx 15 mins walk takes you in to the old village of Argeles with it's narrow streets and pavement cafes. There are several supermarkets in Argeles and, if you prefer, you can stroll through the pinewoods to the hypermarket,/restaurant which is open all year. About the Mobile Home The mobile home is a 1998 8.30m x 3m BK Bluebird model with 2 bedrooms, 1 twin and 1 double, both with wardrobes. Lounge with dining and kitchen area. There is satellite UK TV/DVD /RADIO bring your own DVD's. Shower room and separate toilet. It is fully equipped for 4 people with all cooking utensils, gas hob and microwave/grill. An electric heater is provided. There is a wooden deck with table, 4 chairs and parasol for eating 'al fresco'. The inside has been customised with a comfy 3 seater sofa to relax on, to make it more comfortable for long term use, as I use it myself from January till the end of March. The Spring and Autumn are ideal times for the slightly 'more mature' person to visit the area. The weather is usually quite good, even when it gets chilly there is usually a brilliant blue sky and the sun shines most days even in Winter. Pillows and blankets are provided but you will need to bring your own sheets, towels, and pillowcases. ABOUT THE REGION Argeles-Sur-Mer is situated on the Mediterranean just 40 minutes drive South of Perpignan and 40 min North of Spain. This region boasts approximately 300 days of sunshine each year. The Pyrenees and the revered Mount Canigou tower as a backdrop to the resort’s sandy beaches. Less than one and a half hours drive takes you up to the ski resort of Les Angles. Every form of water sport is to be found here. Argeles has a magnificent port and is magical at night for al fresco eating or just watching the world go by! If you prefer a more active life-style drive up into the foothills of the Pyrenees for rambling, para-gliding, horse riding etc. There is an excellent golf course at St Cyprien less than 15 minutes drive away. The area has a strong Catalan influence. From June to September Argeles has abundant street markets with local craftsmen selling their wares, bric a brac stalls, disco and ballroom dancing and shows of Catalan street dancing in the evenings. Many French locals do their weekly shopping on the Spanish border at Perthus or Jonquera to take advantage of the low prices of many goods including alcohol and cigarettes. On the promenade there is a small funfair, several children’s play areas and a casino. There are numerous ‘eateries’ from pizzerias to gourmet restaurants and seafood specialities. Visit the famous Salvador Dali museum at Figueres- less than an hour’s drive. There are several spa villages in the area where people come from all over the world to take ‘la cure’ from the relaxing waters of the thermal baths, supposedly good for skin complaints and aches and pains. . If you don’t drive there is a taxi rank at the airport or a shuttle bus will take you into Perpignan where you may then catch the bus down to Argeles or take the train. A taxi from Perpignan airport will cost 50/60 euros each way. By train: Alternatively you may come by train from London Waterloo on the Eurostar which should get you to Perpignan (change at Lille) in 8 and a half hours. There is a little yellow road train which circulates around Argeles all the year enabling you to take a tour of the whole village It extends its route to the outer reaches of Argeles from June until September. Alternatively there are taxis or buses or many prefer to hire bicycles here and explore all the little side streets – a healthy and leisurely way to get to see the maximum the area has to offer.
