Description

Set in a quiet rural area close to the Creuse Valley with its spectacular views in the beautiful Limousin region it has peace and tranquillity! interrupted only by the odd buzzard over head calling to it's mate or the swallow's with their wheeling high above catching flies. Lizards can be seen sunning themselves on the natural stone walls and grassy banks with orchids and other wild flowers made for the butterflies. As you walk down the lanes golden brown Limousine cattle greet you at field gateways. The sunsets can be rather spectacular, just before the bats start on their nightly sorties for moths and other flying insects. On clear nights star gazing can be very interesting as there is little or no light pollution. Close by is the quaint old town of La Souterraine with it's cobbled streets, medieval gateway and narrow alleyways leading to small tree lined squares with cafes and bars. La Souterraine boasts two well stocked supermarkets, indoor swimming pool, sports centre and main line Railway Station with direct access to Paris and the South. The house is set in the middle of the small farming hamlet of Chateneuil, and therefore is surrounded by farm life, including animals and tractors. On the ground floor as you enter is the large farmhouse kitchen with a wood-burning stove (wood is available for use as required, and it is asked that the fire guard is used at all times) and there is an abundance of cutlery and crockery. A small sitting room leads off from the kitchen with a futon sofa which can be used as a bed, and a separate pantry which contains a fridge and freezer. From the kitchen entrance lobby at the rear there is a room with has been converted into a toilet and downstairs shower-room. Upstairs there are 1 Double Bedroom (with king size bed) and 2 twin bedrooms. Duvets and pillows are supplied and can be found in cupboards and blanket boxes, however you will need to bring you own sheets, pillow cases towels and duvet covers. There is a lounge/sitting room upstairs and stairs to the loft area - safe and O.K. to be up there but watch your head on the middle beam. There are lovely views from these windows. The bathroom is also situated upstairs. Apple and plum trees are in the garden so feel free to help yourselves, and if anyone fancies mowing the lawn there is a mower in the barn. It is advisable not to let children roam in the barn as there are tools and steep steps to a cellar. Monsieur and Madame Patsy and Joelle were the previous owners and still own and let the farm. They are very friendly and love to meet you. You can sometimes but eggs from them and they frequently offer garden produce. There are lovely walks in all directions. Out of the drive to the left leads to the village of Noth where there is a lake for swimming and fishing, and straight across is a footpath through the woods leading you half the way to La Souterraine. The nearest auberge is St. Bridiers which is less than a mile away and very reasonable. The location of the Farmhouse is 15km (15 mins) drive from the A20 (which is the main route through from Paris to Toulouse). You will need to exit at Junction 23. By air there are now direct flights from Stansted Airport, London to Poitiers and also to Limoges, being operated by Ryanairlines. and there is car hire available at the airport. Poitiers is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes drive away, and Limoges is the same.
