Further details Some information on the local market town: Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët hosts a busy market on Wednesday mornings between 8 and 12 am, which is one of the largest in Normandy. The outstanding feature of the town is a large 19th C. church with two spires. The church luckily survived the air raids and bombardments of 1944 which killed its priest and destroyed the town centre (now rebuilt in the traditional style). The town hosts a museum of religious art and is close to the wildlife park at St.Symphorien-des-Monts and the recreational facilities of the Vezin dams on the river Selune. The bustling town of St Hilaire De Harcouet is 7km down the valley from Les Chataigniers. The town offers a diverse variety of shops from local artisan produce to supermarkets and large DIY and garden stores, restaurants, bars and evening entertainment including a cinema showing new and old favourite films. The playhouse is also the venue of regular amateur dramatic productions by both adults and young people. Local leisure and wellbeing activities include a modern swimming pool in the town, with sauna facilities and boating at the Barrage on the River Selune. Horse-riding can also be enjoyed from the local agricultural college Booking notes A 50% deposit is required on booking with the remaining monies payable one calendar month prior to arrival.
