An old farmhouse has recently been renovated to give two gites, one suitable for a family and the other for a couple. The family gite comprises three bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen and living room. It has its own large sunny terrace.

Gite Facilities.

A large swimming pool (12M X 5M) with cedar deck is shared between the two gites and the owners. The games room is in the front of the barn and is used for table tennis, darts etc. Badminton equipment is provided for the lawn and tennis rackets for use on the municipal courts. Five bikes are stored in the barn for your use.

Each gite has its own private terrace, in addition to other decks and terraces on the property (depending on whether you want to catch or avoid the sun). A pagoda and barbeque area on a large lawn provides a sheltered place to eat in the heat of the day.

We have a sizeable pond surrounded with poplars and stocked with carp , roach and pike. We provide a 10 foot dingy and life jackets.

We are happy to share the produce of our organic vegetable garden with our guests, who get quite a kick from picking the evening meal. Indoors the kitchens are well equipped. Laundry facilities are in the games room in the barn. A plenty ful supply of hot water is provided each day. Towels, bed linen and glass cloths are all supplied. There is an English language library and video collection stored in the games room. TV, video and music systems are provided in both gites.

Situation

The farm house is in a superb rural situation. To the north there is a view of the full length of "Lac d'Astarac". To the east is a wooded hillside teaming with bird life and to the south a dramatic view of the Pyrenees. In the high summer they are often obscured by a heat haze, but can sometimes be seen in the early morning. Snowy peaks catching the rising sun even in July.

There are numerous picturesque villages in the area which are well worth visiting, especially when there is a local market or brochante on. There is a constant stream of festivals during the summer, for jazz, Latin, dance etc. which can be great fun.

A complete change of culture is only an hour and a quarter away in Spain, and an hour away in the same direction are the wonderful Pyrenees. Some ski lifts are still operated in the summer, so one can easily hike in the high mountains.

Local facilities

Lac Gimond is a supervised swimming lake less than ten minutes away. Sailing boats can be hired there and for the more adventurous there is a para-gliding school in the high summer.

Masseube has a large municipal swimming pool, which has the added attraction of a high water slide. The tennis courts are in the same sports complex. Masseube has all the shopping facilities needed for a good holiday and is situated about ten minutes away. St.Blancard is only five minutes up the road and has a hair dresser and grocery store for day to day needs.

A nine hole golf course of challenging proportions is situated half way to Masseube and is set in picturesque countryside. There are four good 18 hole courses, all within approximately half an hours drive.

Our lake is considered one of the best fishing lakes in the South West. One can buy a licence for a modest sum.

The Gers is bird country, the variety and quantity is quite staggering. There are many off road walks locally where nature in all it's abundance can be observed.

The county town of the Gers is Auch. It has a medieval centre and famous cathedral. This is D'Artangnan's home town, you might like to pay your respects. He can be found half way up the long stone stairs leading to the Armagnac Tower.

Getting there:

The drive from the northern French ports is a long one and should be broken with a stop over half way down, unless you are coming for an endurance test and not a holiday. We recommend "fly / drive" as the best way to enjoy your vacation.

The area is well served by budget airlines. Our airports are Toulouse (1 hour) Pau (2 hours) Carcassonne (2 hours) and Biarritz (3 hours).
