Further barn currently used for wood storage etc - approx 20m² Notes on the area... I will try and tell you what I can about the area. Firstly, the Hautes Pyrenees and Gers (whose border we are on) is a quiet agricultural area. The countryside aound is variable. The the north and east is rolling hills, to the south is the adour valley - a vast flat plain that goes all the way to the foothills of the pyrenees. West, is again rolling hills, covered with vineyards. The mountains are only an hour away, but that hour means our weather is still warm. The west coast at Biarritz is a 2 hour drive while the med is approximately 3 & a half to 4 hours away. We do not have stunning uninterrupted views from the house (if we did the price'd be considerably more), but the outlook is pleasant countryside, and although we have 2 immediat neighbours, the garden is so big that you don't feel overlooked. The neighbour in front of us (used as an occassional holiday home), is built side on, almost like an extension to the 'L' of our gite. (there is a lane between us and them) This means that we are overlooking thier garden and not the house itself. Behind us and approximately 100m distant from our house, is a little cottage that is owned and lived in by a lovely french lady.. The view to the sides is of fields. Sometimes you can see into the distance, sometimes not - depending on what is planted there. At the moment, it is corn, so there is no view...but I rather like that. The house is located in a hamlet of 7 houses (including the little 'chateau' and is about 10 minutes walk from the village proper. The village itself is perched on top of the hill and built around the remains of the old castle. Unfortunately there is only 1 wall left of a tower, which they proudly light up at night for all to see. The view from the church there is lovely - as it is from many vantage points in walks round and about. The village has a grocery shop where they make fresh bread, a post office, chemist, doctors, primary school, gendarmerie and hairdresser - but that is it. The pizza wagon visits as does the fish seller once a week. Having said that, there is a good size intermarché in Plaisance du Gers, which is approx 9 kms and a very large new super U in Maubourguet (16kms) Other shopping can be done in Aire sur l'adour which is about 24kms or of course there is everything necessary in Tarbes - 40kms straight down the adour valley. Life here is quiet if you want it to be - or if you are feeling sociable, then there is always something going on if you're willing to get out there. For those looking for a group of properties - please note that the neighbouring house (diagonally opposite) is for sale - see IFPC18774
