Town House with 5 bedrooms – Boulogne-sur-mer, Pas-de-Calais This house (a ‘maison de maître’ to the French) was built around 1900 and has the characteristic styling features of the period. Relatively few Boulogne houses survived the war intact. This one had been occupied by the Germans, was then empty for a number of years before being fully refurbished with a rebuilt interior, new central heating and electrics some 15 years ago. The house frontage was refurbished in Aug 2010. (See picture of this in process.) House has a very large living area on the ground floor – 10m long x 3.5m wide and a stunning 4.5m high! Large windows of nearly floor to ceiling height at each end. Two attractive, original fireplaces (one working). Two bedrooms on the first floor, together with a bath+shower room, another shower room (both with WCs) and a separate guest WC. 2nd (top) floor has 2 or 3 bedrooms, one en-suite shower room and a second shower room (both with WCs). Stylish oak staircases link the floors. Back on the ground, the small area that used to be an open courtyard (3m x 3m) has been professionally covered over with a translucent roof and is now an all-year-round, very light sitting area accessed from either the kitchen or the living room. Full kitchen with all expected appliances. There is a full cellar with the same footprint as the house above, divided into 4 separate areas. Down here are the gas-fired boilers for the heat and hot water and the washing machine. The house, which has approx. 125 sqm of habitable space (not inc. bathrooms, kitchen or cellar), is in excellent decorative order – nothing needs doing. The house is 25 minutes from the Channel Tunnel and 40 minutes from the Calais ferry port. The town centre, with shops selling all needs, and a number of excellent restaurants, is 10 minutes walk away. There is a market in the main square twice a week. A fabulous, wide beach is 15 minutes walk away, as is the famous aquaria and research centre ‘Nausicaa’. Paris is 290 kms distant, via a choice of two autoroutes or via TGV from the SNCF station also 10 minutes walk away. Note that there is no garden and no garage.
