One of only three houses on this farmstead La Bouvrie is the result of a full conversion of one of the stone farm buildings into a three bedroomed stone house with full central heating, oak framed double glazing throughout and a woodburning stove in the lounge. The conversion involved stripping out to the basic stone carcase and then renewing with fully insulated floors and walls resulting in a house which is both warm in winter yet cool in the heat of summer. Many of the rooms feature the original oak beams which have been fully treated as part of the renovation to ensure their stability and longevity. In 2009 the kitchen was remodelled and new french windows fitted leading onto a covered terrace which, for the majority of the year serves as the dining area. The kitchen now boasts outside access to both sides of the house through either the french windows or patio doors – both oak framed and double glazed. The kitchen remodel also included the addition of further high-quality kitchen units and a new double oven range cooker. Across the courtyard is a large stone barn with lean-to. Formerly used to house animals the ground floor of the barn is divided into four main units while the upper floor is one large space. Presently the ground floor has a variety of uses including a woodworking workshop, garage, wood store and general storage. The lean to area was re roofed in 2008 and the internal pig stys demolished to provide further open space currently storing gardening equipment and timber. This building provides considerable potential for a variety of uses. In addition to the courtyard the grounds extend to a grassed orchard part of which has been cultivated into a kitchen garden including a range of fruit bushes. There is also a smaller grassed area to the rear of the house with an established pear tree outside the rear kitchen door which yields heavily each year. The house is located off the main road at the end of a lane which serves only the houses at La Bouvrie and the fields beyond, as a result it is very quiet with no through traffic and only the occasional tractor to disturb the relative silence. The nearest (2km) town is Villaines la Juhel, a small town with a range of supermarkets and stores, a small hospital and a swimming pool. Also nearby is the village of Courcite which boasts a superior boulangerie for those who enjoy fresh breads and pastries. Further afield is the city of Alencon and the town of Mayenne both within 25kms. The surrounding countryside is undulating and features both farm and woodland areas with opportunities for walking and exploring.
