La Belle Cachette is a fully restored, detached 19th century Charentaise farmhouse with walled garden and a swimming pool on the edge of Surgeres, just 30 kms from the delightful town and ancient port of La Rochelle.It is a south-facing house which has 3/4 bedrooms for sleeping 6/8 people plus a baby, two bathrooms and central heating for year round use and is newly equipped this season to a high standard. The kitchen has a beamed ceiling with large table and chairs to seat up to eight people. Particularly well equipped with French doors opening onto front courtyard. The salon is a comfortable beamed room with large open stone fireplace, French doors, satellite TV, video player, CD/tape/video library, books and board games. Three sofas and a armchair. Day room/bedroom 4 is an airy south-facing ground floor room with double sofa bed. Sliding doors opening onto barbecue area with view of the swimming pool and garden. A downstairs shower room and wc. There is also a quiet reading room with additional seating. Three upstairs bedrooms and a bathroom plus additional separate wc. Situated on the edge of Surgeres with its square, market place, river and chateau walls and parkland, the house is just a short stroll from every amenity including a cinema, cafe/bars and fine restaurants. There is a TGV (Paris 3 hours) station just ten minutes walk away.Perfectly placed also to explore open countryside in minutes, magnificent beaches of Chatellailon Plage, Fouras, Ile de Re and Ile d'Oleron are within half an hour and just a little further south you will find Royan, Rochefort and the Roman town of Saintes. Why not sample the delights of Cognac on the River Charente or explore the Green Venice canals of the Marais Poitevin on a leisurely boat trip? Poitiers (Home to Futuroscope) is also within easy reach along the A10 motorway link.There are sporting facilities in Surgeres and golf courses within easy proximity. Our own private swimming is 10m x 5m with a roman end and underwater lighting and is protected by Protect-a-Child safety fencing to comply with French legislation. So for those wishing to spend lazy days around the pool or soaking up the local atmosphere, there is no need even to drive as every amenity is within walking distance. For days out, there are many interesting historic towns all within easy reach. The town of Surgeres has wonderful indoor and outdoor markets for delicious fresh local produce. There is so much to see and do in the area and it also makes an ideal base for house-hunters!
