Cartier is located in the tranquil countryside near the village of Les Roches. The medieval town of Pons is only 5 minutes away by car or bicycle! Pons offers all facilities and amenities including banks, shops, restaurants, tourism information and activities. Across the Charente Maritime region there are numerous facilities and activities available for children.
Cartier, originally a water mill, has been carefully restored keeping as many of the original features as possible and retains an atmosphere of the working mill it once was. Originally supplied by the River Medoc, which no longer flows beneath, Cartier now enjoys retirement!
The nearest town of significance is Pons. Rich in medieval history, Pons offers restaurants, shops, children's activities including swimming pool and river trips. 15 minutes to the south of Pons is the town of Jonzac. This town has a newly-built ‘Oasis’ style water park "Les Antilles". Both towns have thriving weekly markets. In addition, both towns have an "Aire de Loisir" offering play facilities, bar, restaurant, pedalo hire, horse riding. Jonzac has a man-made lake and beach for safe bathing beside a separate boating lake all in attractive surroundings.
