It is approximately 1 hour from the airports at Bordeaux and La Rochelle, and 20 minutes from the Gironde Estuary. The larger towns of Saintes and Cognac are about 25 minutes away. Sailing, golf, and a flying club are all local. There are many very good local restaurants and the regional wines are inexpensive and excellent.
