This two bedroom country cottage in Charente-Maritime built from local stone offers comfortable accommodation for up to four people.
The cottage is one hour's drive from Bordeaux and La Rochelle airports, both of which are served by budget airlines from the UK , and with easy access from the A10 autoroute. Benèze, as the cottage is called, is situated in the calm of the countryside surrounded by fields and vines. Seaside beaches are 30 minutes' drive, the local swimming pool is less than 10 minutes away and the historic towns of Saintes, Pons and Cognac are within easy reach.
The full height living area, taking up the entire left half of the cottage, has exposed beams and a large fireplace with a wood-burning stove. A fully equipped, fitted kitchen area with full-size four ring gas /electric hob and electric oven takes up one corner of the room. The rest of the space offers comfortable seating and dining for four.
The master bedroom contains a double bed, chest of draws and under-stairs wardrobe. It enjoys access to the patio and good views of the garden.
Leading off a corridor and storage area which runs along the back of the cottage is a steep staircase to the upstairs bedroom. This low ceiling, wood-beamed room contains two single beds and was the original hay loft. It also has a chest of draws and small wardrobe, a sky-light window and its own pigeon holes.
The secluded garden lies to the front of the cottage and is contained within a stone wall. The main area is grassed and surrounded by flowers and shrubs, an albezia (silk tree) provides shade for the garden and patio. There are lovely views over the adjacent pasture land. At the entrance to the property there is a parking area and a stone built barn that has been converted to house the washing machine and give storage space for bikes, surf boards etc.
