The location

The Vars area combined with neighbouring Risoul encompasses La Foret Blanche, a giant ski area offering 185 km of skiable domain, with 108 pistes and 50 ski lifts. Activities
In winter hit the slopes for alpine skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing, sledging, dog sledding , the snow park and snow mobiles. In summer try horse riding, trekking, mountain biking, tennis, archery, volley ball, paragliding and rock climbing.

Local food and specialities
The gratin dauphinois (thinly sliced potatoes cooked with cream and garlic) is a popular dish of the area, as are tourtons (a fried doughnut with potato and leeks), raviolis, the petit Bayard (blue cheese), and Oreilles d’anes- a sort of lasagne with a cep and spinach stuffing. To drink it has to be the Genepi, a liqueur flavoured with an aromatic mountain herb.
