The Valmeinier ski resort forms part of the Maurienne Valley, with les Ecrins on one side and la Vanoise on the other, it has wonderful views over the surrounding mountains. The resort is linked to the traditional French village of Valloire to provide an excellent ski area at the foot of the Galibier Pass. Valmeinier itself consists of two areas, 1500, a traditional village, and 1800, a purpose-built region with convenient ski-in/ski-out accommodation and an ideal spot for beginners and intermediates. For advanced skiers, Valmeinier is home to an Olympic ski run. Other activities to enjoy include paragliding, snowshoeing, hiking, climbing and much more.

The nearest international airports are at Geneva, Lyon, Turin and Grenoble, with Chambéry an option during the alpine season. The TGV goes to Valloire and the resort is about 20 minutes from the motorway.
