The historic town of Vezelay, which gives its name to one of the routes to Santiago de Compostella, is about 20 minutes' drive away. The Morvan national park is nearby. Avallon is handy for the A6 autoroute which you can take to reach Beaune in around 1 hour or Paris in approximately 2.5 hours.
