The town of Libourne is the capital of the Gironde wine trade.  Situated at the confluence of the Isle and Dordogne rivers, it is a charming and elegant bastide town with wide, shaded boulevards and a lovely market square.  Shopping in the town is excellent, with all types and sizes of shops and supermarkets you could hope for.  When it comes to eating out, there is a wide range of choice.  All other amenities, including a couple of excellent golf courses are in or around Libourne. 

Libourne is the first main stop on the train line out of Bordeaux and there are regular direct trains into central Bordeaux with a journey time of approx 25mins.
As the airport is situated on the other side of the city, it’s around 45min drive to get to Bordeaux airport, but it’s also just over an hour from Bergerac airport.  Due to the proximity of Bordeaux, there is also easy access on the main access roads heading north towards Poitiers, and on towards the north coast ferry ports, south towards Pau and the Pyrénées and east towards Toulouse and the mediterranean.
