Period Hilltop Property with Cool Guest House and Dramatic …

Description

A superb stone-built maison de maître set on a promontory with 360 degree views and a long rising drive guaranteeing absolute privacy. Beautifully restored, combining original period features with modern function and set in delightfully gardens. Stylish separate accommodation in a converted barn.

In an area where the Templars were known to be active, the property is believed to have medieval origins. A 1km drive, of which 600 metres are privately owned, rises to a knoll with an enticing roll away to the south. There are panoramic views over undulating countryside, with the Pyrenees often providing a dramatic backdrop. The main house and independent guest wing have been comprehensively restored with many attractive finishes; exposed stone, hand-built oak doors, timber and tile floors and underfloor oil-fired central heating at ground floor level. All roofs, windows, shutters, electrical, plumbing and drainage systems have been renewed and decoration is in pale and natural colours throughout.

The Guest House has an immense living area more than 70 sqm and a lofty 5-metre high ceiling and 'monumental' fireplace with powerful wood burning stove. There is a mezzanine sleeping area with bathroom and separate bedroom suite in the former wine press room. As a letting unit and source of income, the Guest House has featured on a Sunday Times list of Europe’s coolest rental villas.

A double barn with two areas of 140sqm has been used for social events or would suit a collector. The swimming pool, 11x5m, is strategically placed for the views from its paved sun deck. The grounds have been skillfully landscaped and are bounded by mixed hedges attracting a variety of domestic and migratory birds. With an absence of light pollution, the location is ideal for star gazing.
