Property Description
Situated in the prestigious Place de Tourny quarter of Bordeaux, in the so-called Golden Triangle, where all the best shops, restaurants and chic pavement cafés are to be found amidst 18th Century classical buildings, is this large ground floor apartment with a private garden, exquisite in every detail.
This magnificent apartment with a massive 145m² of habitable space as well as a sumptuous garden of 150m², is on the ground floor of a very beautiful stone building. The entrance hall leads to the well designed kitchen/dining room which retains many of its original architectural features, notably its beautiful stone fireplace. The adjacent sitting room is bathed in light which pours in through the glazed bays which overlook the garden, itself a great rarity in the centre of Bordeaux.
The master bedroom has some beautiful, period fittings and a magnificent, metal-framed window, as well as a lovely bathroom. Adjacent is a guest studio measuring 38m² with magnificent mouldings and a period fireplace. It consists of a bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette. The property is half an hour by car from Bordeaux Mérignac Airport and less than an hour by public transport.
Traditionally Bordeaux has been known for its wine, gastronomy and elegant 18th Century architecture but over the past decade it has a acquired a vibrant cutting-edge, thanks in part, to the vision of its progressive mayor, Alain Juppé, who started a programme of rejuvenation that pedestrianised boulevards, restored neoclassical architecture, created a high-tech public transport system and reclaimed Bordeaux's former industrial docks. Half the city is now Unesco-listed, making it the largest urban World Heritage site.
Since July 2017 Bordeaux is now much easier to get to from the UK, following the opening of a new 188-mile stretch of high-speed track between Tours and Bordeaux which slashes some 70 minutes off the Paris-Bordeaux journey, down to just over two hours. Even with a change of station in Paris, it will be possible to do the journey from London by Eurostar and TGV in under 6 hours.
