Property Description
A 3-storey village house, in good order, close to local shops and 5 minutes from the Bastide town of Uzès. Nîmes airport is 25 Kms. The house has lots of original features and a delightful, easy to maintain gravelled garden with space for outdoor eating. The Mediterranean climate is very appealing.
Situated amongst the wineries and olive mills of Southern France, this spacious house would be ideal for those who want the French experience without being isolated. The covered terrace is perfect for shaded meals and the enclosed, private garden neat enough not to become a maintenance headache. On the ground floor is a huge, vaulted double bedroom, with exposed stone walls, shower room and direct access to the garden. It would be a lovely cool space for an afternoon siesta!
The kitchen/dining room (23m2) and the sitting room (30m2) are both on the first floor which is accessed by the original stone staircase. These rooms are light and airy and have beamed ceilings and tiled floors.
The staircase continues to the second floor. It opens out into a wide landing which is currently used as an office. The 4 bedrooms on this top floor are all doubles, of between 12m2 - 17m2. The bathroom has a bathtub as well as a shower.
There is a garage and a cellar, each of which is 14m2.
The history of Uzès dates from Roman times. Just a short drive from the town is the astonishing Pont du Gard, a 1stC Roman aqueduct, listed as a UNESCO World heritage site. The town itself has cobbled streets, fine Renaissance mansions and a magnificent central square, the Place-aux-Herbes. The square is surrounded by limestone arches under which shops and restaurants spill out, all shaded by the established sycamore trees. There are two markets every week, one for fresh produce on a Wednesday and another more extensive market on a Saturday.
The square is often used for antique stalls, exhibitions, art shows and the annual truffle fair! Nîmes airport is 25 kms away and just a little further a drive to the Mediterranean coast makes a delightful excursion.
