Ceret is located in the heart of French Catalonia, about half an hour south of Perpignan and just 15 minutes from the Spanish border. The town has an historic old town which has an excellent selection of cafés, bistros, shops and galleries. On Saturday mornings, the artisan market stalls fill the old town streets with wonderful arrays of locally produced fresh fruit and vegetables, olives, cheeses, herbs and spices, cured meats, wines and honeys. 





Ceret’s most famous resident was Pablo Picasso and links to him as well as well as many other well known artists (Dali and Matisse) led to the opening of the Museum of Modern Art and several other galleries and studios. 





The countryside surrounding Ceret is wild and beautiful and there are plenty of outdoor pursuits nearby, including hiking, mountain biking, horse-riding etc.  





The beautiful mediterranean coast and the Spanish border are both about half an hour away and the mountains are also within easy reach. 





If you want hustle and bustle then the cosmopolitan city of Perpignan (with its airport) is a half an hour drive.
