Follow the river down the valley to Argentat and the River Dordogne.
Although on a small junction, the roads are very quiet, so there is no nuisance from traffic at all. If you have children or animals, the south facing garden is fenced.
The countryside around St Bazile de la Roche is very beautiful and varied, mostly wooded on the steep valley sides and with lakes on the plateau. Many of the lakes in the region have quantities of trout, pike, perch and huge carp. You can walk out of the cottage onto footpaths which take you straight into the woods and open countryside.
Many other activities in the area - Walking, riding, canoeing, cycling, hang-gliding, rock climbing, swimming, fishing etc. Argentat is a delightfully peaceful market town with 3 small supermarkets, banks, post office and at least 5 good restaurants . In the summer there are evening markets as well as the 2 monthly fairs, a weekly farmers market at Monceaux and at St Chamant and La Roche Canillac. Argentat is only 10 mins away where you can eat at the Hotel Fouillade or on the quai overlooking the Dordogne River. There is a more local restaurant just 1 km away.
