Lower Normandy Holidays

Lower Normandy has for the past decades been an important touristic spot in France. The region boasts several 'Towns of Art and History' as well as some of the 'Most beautiful villages of France'. It also accounts for 3 outstanding places of interest listed at the UNESCO World Heritage, as follows:

  • Mont Saint Michel: this island was first renowned for its impressive abbey and was one of the most important pilgrimage place of the mediaeval West. It is today worldwide famous and its pictureqie village attracts more than 3 million visitors per year. It is nicknamed 'Wonder of the Western World'.
  • Bayeux Tapestry: 'Memory of the World', this work of art is to be seen in the eponymous town, in the Calvados department. This 70 metres long wonderful embroidery was made in the 11th century, most likely by monks. The linen canvas celebrates the conquest of England by William, Duke of Normandy; ships, legendary animals, Vikings, Norman and Saxon cavalries illustrate his feats.
  • Le Havre: it is the only town presenting a modern architecture to be listed at the UNESCO. Industrial and coastal area, several renowned architects have contributed to make Le Havre a special city offering a unique town planning. It is besides thought to have been the cradle of impressionism.
