Alsace Travel by Canals and Rivers

Alsace boasts a comprehensive network of canals and rivers to sail on, to visit the region at a different pace.

Main Harbours
There are 3 rivers dedicated to cargo transport: Strasbourg, Colmar/ Neuf-Brisach, Mulhouse/Rhine.
Strasbourg is the second fluvial harbour of France.

Cargo Traffic
Total freight for the Alsace harbours consist of about 15 million tons a year. Rhine is the first commercial waterway in the world.

Canals Network
Access to Alsace via 2 canals:
The canal from Marne to Rhine in the North on 152 km through Nancy and Saverne. The canal from Rhône to Rhine in the South on 200 Km from Dôle to Mulhouse.

Ferry Ports
There is no ferry port in Alsace.
The nearest are in Nord Pas De Calais: Calais from Dover via Norfolkline, Seafrance and P&O Ferries.
