Aquitaine Villas For Sale or for Rent

Historically villas are generally grand, luxurious and slightly pretentious houses, that were introduced into France by the Romans. They are often composed of a single low floor of rooms surrounding an inner courtyard with waterfeatures in order to keep the house cool.

Nowadays, villas are much appreciated as holiday homes or permanent homes, a place where one can relax far from the stress and the noise of major towns and cities.

In Aquitaine, the different villas can be split into three main categories.

Landaise villas:

First come the oldest, the villas derived from famhouses, renovated or not to modern day standards, that are mainly called "Longères" (word derived from the French "Long" meaning long). These houses are long houses with visible wooden structures often painted dark red, brown or green creating an amazing contrast against the white walls.

Basque villas:

Then we can distinguish the inland villas or Basque villas, copied on the Longère model. These are popular for they can be built at very little cost on big plots of land.

Modern holiday villas:

Closer to the cost line, beaches and main tourist areas we then find the more modern built villas. These generally expensive properties, target tourists looking to buy or rent a villa for holidays near areas with touristic attractions and activities.
