Welcome to our Guide to Mobile Homes in France.

We know from the enquiries we receive that a fair number of readers seek more information on the installation of a mobile home or caravan in the grounds of their French property, either on a temporary or permanent basis.

Many of you are equally interested in the creation of a camping site or a leisure park, which includes within it mobile homes for holiday makers.

In the past, the planning regulations in France concerning mobile homes and other similar buildings was somewhat opaque, with the result that local councils adopted different approaches.

Since October 2007, when new planning regulations came into force, the rules are now clearer. The regulations are surprisingly tough, despite the frequency with which the rules seem to be breached!

Not all councils interpret them in the same way so there is no guarantee a more uniform approach will be adopted! A lot will depend on the attitude of the local mayor.
