  The Gites de France label is the most famous and serious label for French gites. They follow a special ranking system similar to the star one for hotels. Gites de France can then have 1 to 5 épis (ears), corresponding to the facilities they offer. In Lower Normandy they are particularly big, with an average area of 300 sq m.
