Lorraine Travel by Canals and Rivers

Lorraine has no direct link with the Sea but a huge network of canals. Rivers are also used a lot. They are thus ideal to discover the regional beauties.

  • You can access the region by the Canal from Marne to Rhine between Vitry le François and Strasbourg. By the Canal de l'Est between Charleville Mézières and Gorre.

  • Nancy Saint-Georges port is the first fluvial port in Lorraine. It does welcome each year 2,000 boats from all around the world. Its location in the city centre is exceptional. It is really close to the 18th century area of the town (picture below).
  • This port is fitted with dedicated facilities to ease the visitor's life: a full-time employee at your service, toilets, disabled toilets, touristic info leaflets, water and power supply available, locked access to your boat. The area is controlled during the night in Summer by security employees. Facilities for your boat, rubbish recycling area, phone booth, spaces dedicated to camping-cars and Wireless Internet.
Last year, Nancy obtained the French award of Pavillon Bleu d'Europe, meaning it provides high quality standards for holidaymakers coming by boat. All the services and facilites listed above can explain this, as well as a warm welcome often praised by visitors.
