Normandy Properties for sale

This week our tour of France brings us to the popular region of Normandy. Incorporating the five departments of Calvados (14), Eure (27), Manche (50), Orne (61) and Seine-Maritime (76) it offers a rich blend of history, countryside and coastline. From D-Day landing beaches to the iconic Mont-Saint-Michel, the coast offers diverse landscapes from sandy bays, dramatic cliffs and wetlands & estuaries. Inland, the landscape is equally appealing with picturesque towns and villages, verdant rolling hills, orchards and expansive farmland famed for cider, apple brandy and dairy products.

Well connected to Paris, the UK and northern Europe, it remains a popular choice for both relocation and holiday homes. You will find a diverse selection of properties from quaint half-timbered cottages and longère farmhouses to elegant maisons de maître, country manoirs, pied-à-terres and coastal holiday homes.

We hope you enjoy this week’s selection. If you are searching for a particular property type or location, please email us. Next week, we turn our attention to the neighbouring region of Brittany.

    Summary
This property was most likely built in the 19th century and comprised a "one up and one down" farm cottage when we purchased it in the late 1980's. Stone built with water originally supplied from a well in the (just under an acre) garden. We renovated the original building by the creation of a loft bedroom, a kitchen and bathroom with full re-wiring, connection to mains water and re-plumbing. In the 1990's we built a large extension on the side to make the cottage "L" shaped and this provided a second bathroom and living room together with three further bedrooms.

It thus now has five bedrooms with nine beds (and cot if needed), large living room with wood burner stove together with a separate dining room with wood burner stove. The kitchen is equipped with double electric oven, washing machine and dishwasher. One bathroom contains a toilet and bath (with shower) and the other bathroom has a shower and separate toilet.

Heating is by wood burning stoves and electric radiators. Central heating plumbing is installed but no mains or cistern gas connection( utilising easily obtainable propane gas bottles).. All windows are PVC double glazed.

There is a private driveway with sufficient room for three or more cars.

A large paved patio has been built on the south side of the house with extensive views over a valley. Cows and horses are the closest neighbours with a stud farm to the west and a dairy farm to the east.

The cottage has had a new septic tank and drainage installed in 2025 and has connections to mains electricity and water.

    The house comes completely furnished

The house is situated on the D924 approximately one mile from the town of TInchebray and 10 miles (approx) from the main towns of Vire and Flers.

The floor plan of the house would allow it to be eminently suited to two families sharing or even as a commercial B&B business (subject to consent)

Bacqueville-en-Caux is in the heart of the Normandy countryside and offers quiet, space and a slower pace of life, without feeling isolated.  The coast is just 20 mins away and the Plage du Petit Ailly is particularly spectacular.

This traditional village sits within the rolling landscape of the Pays de Caux, a region known for its wide-open fields and gentle valleys - a patchwork of crops, tree-lined lanes, and quiet walking routes.  It is ideal for those who enjoy outdoor living, cycling, or simply a sense of calm.

Despite its rural setting, Bacqueville-en-Caux is far from remote. It lies just a short drive from the coastal town of Dieppe, giving residents easy access to beaches, a lively port, and rail links to larger cities. This balance between countryside tranquillity and coastal convenience is a major draw for buyers, particularly those relocating from busier parts of France or abroad.

The village itself has a warm, lived-in feel. Unlike many small rural communities, it retains a good range of everyday amenities—shops, bakeries, cafés, and local services—creating a genuine sense of community and practicality for year-round living. The central square, with its historic market tradition, still hosts regular markets, reinforcing the village’s social atmosphere and connection to local produce and traditions.

Other places in the area that are well worth a visit would include Veules-les-Roses, Rouen and Varengeville-sur-Mer, known for its gardens, sea views and links to Claude Monet.

In the heart of a hilly and wooded countryside, and marked trails, an authentic and charming hamlet built with local stone is revealed.
Set on nearly 12 hectares of meadows, this former agricultural property is organized around two main buildings facing each other, housing two dwellings. The equestrian facilities, particularly comprehensive, offer remarkable potential.
Next to the house is a covered riding arena measuring 40 x 20 m, recently re-sanded, bathed in light and equipped with kickboards.
Adjacent to the riding arena is a row of 22 stalls, as well as a feed room, a tack room, and a wash area. A large covered area also provides storage for hay and equipment.
A wide stabilized platform facilitates the movement of machinery and trucks and provides access to pastures fenced with half-rail and wire fencing.
    Also, a location for a 70 x 30 m outdoor arena is planned.
The farmhouse complex houses the main house, which is bright and welcoming. It offers beautiful living spaces, including a large, inviting kitchen. The ground floor provides single-level living with a bedroom and bathroom, and is accessible for people with reduced mobility, while the first floor comprises three bedrooms, a shower room, and a dressing room.
Extending from the house, accessible via an external stone staircase, a large room with a fireplace occupies the upper floor and could easily be converted into a self-contained studio with its own private entrance. This room could also be accessed from inside the house.
Opposite this building, a second stone structure, comprising former stables and adjoining barns offering excellent potential for conversion, also houses a second dwelling of approximately 60 m2, including a spacious living room and a mezzanine bedroom. A large attic completes the property. The building extends into a covered area sheltering two large foaling boxes and a room equipped with a breeding bar.
A room closes off the courtyard of the house, allowing for potential equestrian activities while preserving the privacy of the private area.
The property also includes an old bread oven and a well.
Peaceful and perfectly equipped, this characterful property is immediately operational, just 50 minutes from Caen and 45 minutes from Argentan.

    Summary
I am selling a 1/7th share of three old stone cottages in the hameau of St. Clair, just outside of Sées Normandy. Two of the cottages are finished and furnished so it accommodates a houseful of 10. The share entitles the buyer to the use of the house for one month during the prime season April-October (by rotation) plus you can use it winter weeks or months by arrangement with the other owners. The annual fee for maintenance, upkeep and taxes is $1200.

    Location
Located in lush and beautiful southeast Orne Normandy. The countryside is exceptionally green and beautiful, not like the dry hot south of France. Temperatures are very moderate. We have used these houses as a base for fifteen years to explore western and southwestern France by car, train, and bicycle to Mont Saint-Michel, St. Malo, the Normandy beaches, the Bayeux Tapestry museum in Caen, west to the Celtic ruins of Brittany, the Fougères fortress, Belle Isle, to the Loire valley castles, the port of La Rochelle, Bordeaux and the Dordogne river valley. We've camped and bicycled everywhere. Provincial French hotels are amazingly cheap and excellent quality. One of the great joys of this area of France are the thousands of tiny but perfectly paved rural roads with beautiful ancient medieval villages every 10-15 km, most of which have acceptable cafes and restaurants. We bicycle camp but never cook. Why cook when we're in France, where restaurants are so good and cheap? Another great pleasure on summer weekends are the many classical concerts held in ancient village churches, many are free. The 11th century Sées cathedral near us was the site of the last remake of the film of Jeanne d'Arc. Then there are all the farmers markets, antique stores, flea markets, forest hiking trails, country inns everywhere. We're giving up our house share but definitely the good life of France.

Believed to date back to the mid 1800s this property is steeped in history and has the most amazing far reaching views across the open countryside. Fully renovated to the highest standard it offers 4 bedrooms and the option of a self contained apartment.
The rooms are large and flooded with light, the outbuildings have so much potential and the property benefits from central heating which is a mix of oil and pellet burners.
You come into light entrance hall where you will see the staircase and find a wc. Turn right to the fabuous kitchen with dining space. The kitchen has fitted wall and base units, a range cooker, dual aspect and integrated dishwasher and fridge. At the other end is ample space for dining and entertaining. There is newly installed pellet burner at one end.
Next is the magnificent lounge, tall windows either side of the room fill the room with sunlight. The book cases are handmade and the flooring is oak. The woodburner is ideal for cosy evenings by the fire. A door from the lounge leads to the outbuilding so you dont have to go outside for wood.
To the left of the entrance hall is the utility room and then a door leads to what could be an independent apartment. Currently there is a spacious living room with kitchenette at one end, a room used as a study and a shower room with wc.
On the first floor are four large bedrooms, two shower rooms both with wc and a smaller room used as a dressing room. The floors throughout are wood.
The attic is boarded out and can be used for storage.
    Outside
The adjacent outbuilding is currently used or storage but has electric and some older plumbing.
There is a garage and plenty of space for parking
A decked terrace for enjoying a glass of something chilled whilst enjoying the views.
    Lawns and mature trees.
This property is one of my personal favourites and is definitely worth you visiting (5.43 % fees incl. VAT at the buyer's expense.)

The ground floor features tiled floors with underfloor heating and a double height living area with French windows onto the generous terrace which extends across the entire width of the house. The very large kitchen and dining room features two sets of French windows. The house is very light and bright and opens onto the beautiful garden, skilfully planted by the current owner.

    Exterior
The garden comprises a large expanse of lawn, planted with mature trees, including apple trees and a large cherry tree. There is a lean-to storage area on the side of the house and a large shed. The garden has a water well, which is obviously useful for watering the garden.

    Additional Details
The house is currently a second home and the owner would be willing to sell some of the furniture if this would interest a potential buyer.

    Interior
It is impossible to compare this house with others. It has a truly unique architectural style, lending an almost church like quality to its appearance. Soaring roofscapes and delicate stone tracery adorn the facades of the property and a beautiful external staircase winds up to the first floor. Inside, the gothic theme continues with a hand carved stair with ancient wooden carved characters and unique radial wooden panelled doors. There are fireplaces, plasterwork and ornate windows. On the ground floor you enter the panelled and beamed outer hall with WC. Through to an internal hall and along to the library with its warm wooden panelling, intricately plastered ceiling and welcoming open fireplace. There is a small office, laundry and walk in cupboard. The inviting kitchen has bright windows, tiled floor and a large woodburner. The commercial cooker still remains and works perfectly and the units are recently installed. Through to the pantry and salon which has a large, light filled bay window and door to the garden. This room has gorgeous panelling and wonderful hand-built, period, floor-to-ceiling joinery. There is a glasshouse leading to the gardens. The first floor houses the four principal bedroom suites, two with balconies. These bright rooms each have private bathrooms. Here you will also find a living room which is so luminous it is called the solarium. Up to the top floor and a further three bedroom suites, one with its own sitting room and generous terrace which receives the sun all day long.

    Exterior
Entering through double gates and down a long private drive, you approach the house with the gothic view revealing itself like a picture. The architecturally pleasing facades of this house give a feeling of strength and permanence. Stone-built with giant beams, it sits within its landscape, beautifully proportioned and gracious. The property is filled with period features and the church like stone tracery of the windows, porches and staircase give off a feeling of quiet dominance. The lovely grounds enclose the house entirely and there are beautiful spots for sitting in the sun. An orchard with a variety of apple trees, a pear espalier with the biggest fruits we have ever seen and an ancient quince tree complete the picture. There is also an abundant sweet chestnut tree which in November gives around 4 kilos of treasure. You will find the stone foundations of an old chapel and a quirky sentry box with lettering from WWII as well as the small trout pond which used to serve fresh fish in the Michelin starred restaurant during the 1950's

    Opportunities for income.
We bought the house with a view to creating a boutique event venue with rooms. The area of Suisse Normande is a vibrant hub of visitors nearly all year round, but our circumstances have changed and so the next chapter will be played out with a different owner. Our plan was to convert the two cottages, use the bedroom suites and event room to create something unique in the region. This is still the perfect plan for the house and the area is completely lacking in high quality accommodation, with no event centres available for large celebrations. Although you can scale the amount of input you want, keeping the whole as a wonderful family home, or simply letting out the two cottages - the opportunity to really expand the potential of the house is a very exciting prospect.
